Reviews for City Cafe Northport
Review highlights
Based on 1,855 reviewsCity Cafe in Northport is widely praised for its authentic Southern home-style cooking, particularly its classic meat-and-three offerings served for both breakfast and lunch. Reviewers consistently highlight the freshness and quality of the food, with standout dishes such as fried okra, hamburger steak, and seasonal vegetables receiving frequent mention. The restaurant’s longstanding presence and local popularity contribute to a bustling, lively atmosphere where guests often encounter crowded dining areas, especially during peak hours. While the décor reflects regional pride that some find polarizing, the welcoming staff and efficient service, especially for takeout orders, reinforce the inviting, community-focused experience. Overall, City Cafe is celebrated for delivering dependable, satisfying meals that capture the essence of small-town Southern dining, making it a beloved stop for both locals and visitors seeking genuine comfort food in a casual setting.
Love spots like this...home cooking. The fried okra is great! Tried the strawberry cobbler today, was good. I'll be back when I'm in town again. The only downside was all the Bama decor...Go Vols!
I've been eating here since I was a child. You'd be hard pressed to meet a local who has never eaten here. I recommend both breakfast and lunch. Meat and 3 vegetables for lunch. Menu changes depending on the day of the week. If you go at lunch, be prepared to stand and lurk over the tables while anxiously awaiting someone to get up. Gobble it up and leave quickly. The line typically spans 3 rooms and it's standing room only. If you're looking to sit and chat for hours, this is NOT the place for that. The waitresses know the locals and know their drink orders and salad dressing of choice. It's an iconic landmark and a true staple of Northport.
Loved this small town meat and 3. My daughter goes to UA, and I read about this place being one of the best meat & 3 in the state and it did not disappoint. Had the hamburger steak and it was perfect. Will definitely be back when we come back to visit!
A great Meat and Vegetable place to grab lunch or even a nice breakfast. If you are in Tuscaloosa when UA is in session then you should stop here and catch the local flavor. It’s been in business for a long time and there is a reason… it’s good.
The absolute best food you can get away from MawMaw's house. No where else comes close. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is inviting...you miss it when you can't go eat there. Take out orders are fast, fresh, and always right.
First ate here in 1992, my first year at the University of Alabama. Just had breakfast here 33 years later and it's every bit as good as it has ever been. A legendary spot that is an institution in Tuscaloosa County. Can't wait to come back again soon!
This place has been here for decades and for great reason. Great people great prices great amazing cafe style dishes. And one of the best cheeseburgers in Tuscaloosa Northport area
We’ve been going to City Cafe for years— making sure to visit at least once when we come in town to see family. The food is wonderful and service is quick for an in-and-out lunch.
